Summer Reading at the Library June 16, 2012

We had our first meeting at the library today. It was so nice to see everyone who was able to come. We found lots of great books. Brek, Ava, Zak, Joey, Cole, Kate, Nico, Lili, Ms. Dee and I all enjoyed visiting with each other and with all of the other family members who came. I will send an email with the next date for a library meeting. (Thanks to my husband for getting a few pictures to share with you.)

Photo taken by Cole's dad. Thanks!

Summer Reading June 12, 2012

I am still reading. Are you? In the picture below, I am reading out on my deck but it is kind of hard to tell from the angle of the picture.
But if you were to turn around, the pictures below show some of the things that I have seen from the deck in my backyard when I look up from my book.

What was I reading? I had two great books that I think some of you would just love ~ Lunch Lady by Jarrett J. Krosoczka and Mal and Chad by Stephen McCranie. They are both graphic novels which means that they look like comic books. I have to say that I never thought I would like this kind of book but I do.

Lunch Lady is kind of like a super hero and she has so many cool gadgets to help her solve problems. She has a cool motorcycle that she hides in a special compartment of the school dumpster, taco shaped night vision goggles, hamburger headphones and much more.

Mal is a boy in 4th grade and Chad is his dog. Mal is very, very smart and he also has invented lots of cool tools. He has a time machine, a machine that will shrink people (and dogs) and much more.

You should check out both of these books at the public library. They are very popular so you might need to put them on hold and pick them up later. You can put them on hold online and you will get an email when they are ready.

I would love to hear about your summer reading. Remember, you can send me a picture and I will put it on our crew blog or you could write a post about your favorite books on your own blog. They are still up and running. I can't wait to hear about what you are reading.

Summer Reading

At our Closing Circle on Thursday I mentioned that I would post pictures of myself reading on the blog and that I would love to get some pictures of the crew reading this summer that I could also post on the blog. I already got the first picture!
Cole reads until he falls asleep.

So what am I reading? Over Memorial Day weekend, I participated in a "chat" on Twitter called #titletalk. This chat involved teachers and librarians who get together once a month on Twitter to talk about books and how to use them in your classroom. Last weekend the topic was Graphic Novels.

I was really interested in this topic because our crew loves Elephant and Piggie books so much that I wanted to find that "next, great series" for them to love. I learned about many series during the chat so I put them on hold at the library and they came in yesterday. I spent this morning reading and reading and found some great new series that I know many in our crew would love. I just wish I had a couple more weeks with the crew. Anyway, I created a new Pinterest page of these books that I wanted to share with you as you are looking for great books to read this summer.  Click on the picture below to go to the page or click here. To view all of my Pinterest book pages, click here.

I will send out an email later with dates that I will be at the library so the crew and I can meet up to talk about books.
