Our All About Books

We have finished our All About books and they are some of our best writing so far this year. I have added them to our read aloud basket and will read one or two at various times throughout our day. We are learning so much about different animals. It is great to share our writing with the whole crew.  If you would like to see the books for yourself, just drop by any time and you can browse our basket. You will be impressed!
(Click on the pictures to see a larger version.)

In our books you will see:

Interesting information and fun facts

Dedication pages and Tables of Contents

Answers to your burning questions

Beautiful book covers

Interesting animal choices

Illustrations that make you feel like you are there

Bold print words indicating...

that the word is in the glossary (a bit of fact checking might be needed but still great effort to write a glossary)

We also have many wonderful "About the Author" pages but I couldn't share those here because the have too much personal information (last names, city, state and street addresses)

No homework for the weekend. Enjoy some great books with your child.

Our IA next week is Music.

Gardening Tools and Gloves
On Tuesday of next week we will begin to work in our garden - clearing out dead plants and digging up the soil. If you have a small shovel or trowel or other small tools that would be safe for 1st graders to use, it would be great if you could send them in for us to borrow. We do have a few but it would be great to have more. If you do send in a tool, please label it clearly with your name so we can make sure it goes back to the correct home when we are finished.

If your child owns a pair of gardening gloves, they might want to keep them in their backpack next week so that they are available when we go out to work in the garden. Gardening gloves are not required but some children might want them (you know your child well enough to know if he or she will want/need them).

Thanks for helping us out!
