Question to Ponder

As a follow up to our discussion of our crew mission statement discussion and subsequent research on topics we are passionate about, I plan to ask the crew the following question:

Where do the facts in books and on the internet come from?

I want them to continue to think about how we learn things because they are still struggling with the idea of exploring things. I want them to know that people explore and learn things all the time and then write about them to share their ideas with others. I want to get back to the root of how we learned the facts that we think are facts and that someone had to figure out or notice the facts through careful observation and study. I will not, however, just simply tell them this. We will discuss this question all week and I will continue to challenge their thinking with more questions to help them think through this issue. They may ask you and I would love it if you could help them think on their own by simply continuing to ask them questions that might push their thinking. The more they think on their own, the more they will learn. We will see where our thinking ends up by the end of the week.

Homework ~ Read a good book or two.
