We have been learning about one of the biggest holidays in China - Chinese New Year (they just call it New Year or Lunar New Year or Spring Festival). We learned that they celebrate by making and/or lighting lanterns during the last day of the two week holiday. Today we made our own version of a lantern and decorated it with some of the Chinese characters we have been learning.

On another note, we have some wonderful parent volunteers who come in and help our crew and I appreciate them so much. I am going to have a little feature here on the blog and show you some of the things that our volunteers do when they come in to help us. One volunteer made me laugh out loud while he was working with a small group and I was teaching the rest of the crew. I looked up and saw him "being a clock" with a short hand and a long hand. (You might need to click on the picture to see this up close for the full effect.) I think his group will remember which hand is which after that demonstration. Thanks, Mr. Josh, for helping us learn and in such a fun way!
