Spring Break Reading Part 2

hope you are all staying warm during our blizzard today. Since it is still too blustery to play outside comfortably for very long, I thought you might be doing some reading. Are you? If you are, please send me a picture of you reading to add to this post. Be sure to include the title of the book you are reading so we all can get some ideas for new books to read. I will continue to add pictures to this post all during Spring Break so be sure to come back and check out what your friends are reading. Also check your email for information if you would like to order books with our classroom book order this month. Happy Reading!

Rhiannon is reading Breyer Stablemates chapter books. Here she is reading one at bedtime.

Today Rhiannon is having pajama day all day and she is currently reading Mr. Putter and Tabby.

Gracie bid on my bedtime story reading at the Life is Art auction and won. I visited her home to read bedtime stories to her and to Tori, who was spending the night. (Gracie's family and Tori's family were in a bidding war over the bedtime story reading so Gracie was very kind and invited Tori to come over and share the experience with her. We have the kindest crew.) We read Strega Nona, Friendshape and Tea Party Rules. I left them with a Sophie Mouse chapter book to read on their own after I left.

Harry and Zak, two former students of mine are spending some time cuddled up with good books today. Harry is now a 3rd grader and Zak is a 5th grader. I love to see kids reading at all ages. Thanks for sharing guys!

Riley is reading about Mt. Everest.

Ellison, another former student who is now in 3rd grade is reading Wings of Fire and her mom is reading Coop.

My husband and I are reading this afternoon. He is reading a book called The Word Exchange and I am sipping chai tea and reading pictures books about words and trying to pick some to use in a word study unit we will start after break. Our dog wishes she could read, too.

Logan is reading Ricky Ricotta and His Mighty Robot.

Yesterday Halle and her brother, Matthew, read to Petra the dog at the library. They didn't take pictures but they had a lot of fun. Today Halle is reading Lunch Lady and the Summer Camp Shakedown. Another great reading spot!

Mazie is enjoying Ricky Ricotta's Mighty Robot by Dav Pilkey and her sister is reading Penny and her Song by Kevin Henkes that she borrowed from Mazie. Their mom is reading Queen Bees and Wannabees by Rosalind Wiseman.

Lily read a bedtime story to her cousin Luca tonight before bed.

Kaisa was snuggling up next to her grandmother ("mormor") visiting from Sweden and read her a few stories. Their two doggies enjoyed the storytime as well!

Sarah (the daughter of a friend) is reading on the balcony at their hotel in Naples, Florida. It is warm with a slight breeze. Their hotel is on the Gordon River that goes to the intercoastal and then to the Gulf of Mexico.

Abby, my daughter, is reading Farenheit 451 for her Spring Break reading for her high school English class.

JP loves Humphrey books as well as the Race to the Wild and Droon series. The second photo is him at the four corners... one arm/leg in each state.

Jackson (12) and family skied and swam in Glenwood Springs last week. Now for some reading and relaxing.

Mrs. Price is reading in Australia, too. She is reading Snugglepot and Cuddlepie and thinking about how she can use these books in an upcoming Art lesson.

Gracie is snuggled in and reading a Sophie Mouse chapter book.

Lincoln is getting a head start on some of his new books for his upcoming trip.

Marley is reading Ready Freddy Tooth Trouble. That blanket sure looks cozy!

Willow is reading up on ferrets and how to convince her parents to let her get one.

Tanner' reading pictures: The first one is in Colorado. The book is Uncle John's Electrifying Bathroom Reader for Kids only.

The second pic is in Kansas with his Nana. The book is 10 rules you must absolutely not break if you want to survive riding the school bus.

Spring Break Reading

I am so happy to be starting my Spring Break reading. I got a big stack of the books I recommended to the crew in an earlier post and I have begun working my way through the pile. I have read 5 great books so far and have many more to go. I think the crew would like all of them but they would especially like the Dragon Masters series. It is right up their alley. Be sure to share this post with your child and send me some pictures of them reading on their break. I will gather them all up and make a blog post to share. Be sure to share the title of the books they are reading so others can get some ideas for new books to read. In the pictures above, I was reading Owl Diaries and just starting Notebook of Doom.

Garden Discussion

Today we had a discussion with the whole first grade. During this discussion, we generated ideas and then made decisions about what we wanted to plant in our garden this year. Lots of great suggestions were shared. Ask your child to tell you all about it.

What is it?

Occasionally we play the game What is it? during morning meeting. It has been a while since we played it so we played a round this morning. We take a found object or a common object and try to think of new uses for it. Perhaps the name of the game should be What could it be? Ask your child to tell you all about it.

Worm Farm

How are our worms doing? They seem to be doing very well. Ask your child to tell you all about them. Here are a few pictures of the worm farm. If you look closely you might be able to see a worm or two.
