It's Almost Time to Come Back to School!

I can't wait to see you! I have missed you all so much! I can't wait to hear all about what you have been doing during break. In the meantime, I have some things to share with you that will get you excited about coming back to school, too. See you on Tuesday!

Remember that list we made together about new things we wanted to try after break. Well, I gathered the things we needed and have some of your ideas ready to go for the first day back - more will be coming later.

You wanted to try a new desk arrangement. Many of you wanted to try putting the desks in rows with no desks touching each other. Well, I had to modify that just a little bit for two reasons: 1. We don't have enough room to do that and still have room to build, create, read, write, etc. on the floor and 2. I still want us to have friends to work with during the times we are at our desks. It is important to work together. So, here is my attempt to meet your requests and still have space and friends to work with. We will see how we like it. If we don't like it, we can change it.

Remember how you asked if we could redo our self-portraits and see if we could do better than we did at the beginning of the year now that you have learned so much in Art. Well, I hung your new portraits up right under your old ones - just like you asked - so you can see how much you have grown in your Art skills. They look really nice on that wall.

You asked if we could have a painting station after break and here it is! It is all ready for you to create some amazing paintings.

You asked if we could get the book making station out again. It is out and in this basket with a few new tools to use as you are making your books.

You asked if we could have sign up sheets for various things like reading to the crew and modeling writing for the crew on the doc camera. Here are those sign up sheets. I added one that I think you will like. I called it Open Mic and that means that you can sign up to tell a joke, tell a story, sing a song or whatever you can think of. We will do that during Closing Circle each day.

I though you might enjoy having some new friendly faces to welcome you back to school so I put up these super cute pictures of some funny animals.

We are going to be doing a new study called, Words, Words, Words. We will be learning lots of new vocabulary and tons of things about words. I can't wait to read some of these books with you.

To go along with our Word Study, we are going to be reading some poetry - funny poetry, beautiful poetry and very creative poetry. You are going to love it!

Look at these very creative shape poems that are hanging up in our room!

For our next collection of library books, I have begun gathering some graphic novels. There are so many different kinds out now. Below is a picture of some of the ones we have in our room right now but more are on the way. You are going to love these, too!

I also just sent in a book order so we will have some new books coming soon for our classroom library. You are going to love them, too.

So much to love! I am excited to get back to school and see you all! Don't forget that we will be going on our Climbing Voyage on Thursday, too. Yes! It is my favorite Voyage day of the whole year!

Here are some links that you and your parents might find fun and interesting:

These links have lots of great books for kids. I like these links because they show pictures of the books and have a short description of the story. At the bottom of each link are links to more pages of good books. These links will really help you find some great books to read.
