Apps We Use

Students love using our ipads for all kinds of learning. Often they wish that they could continue the learning at home. I have taken some pictures of the various screens on our ipads so that you can see some of the apps that we use. There are still a few more to add to our ipads but this new process has been a bit slow this year - more were being added today. Thankfully we have most of the apps that we really use a lot now.

Arts and PE Class
We have PE next week.

Update: Below is a photo of apps we have added since the time of this blog post.

We Love to Read!

We love to read and we especially love to read with our friends. We recently added a buddy reading time to our day. Right after we have some time to read by ourselves, we get to read with a friend. We find a good spot in the room and sit shoulder to shoulder and read our books together. We take turns reading books or pages of books. We talk about what books we like the best. We work together to figure out challenging words and we notice things like interesting facts, stories or rhyming words.

We also read with friends each morning before school starts. When we come into the room at 8:30 am, we get to choose a book and read with friends until morning meetings starts at 8:40 am. Below is a short video that will let you see what that looks like and sounds like. (If you get this post by email, you will need to click through to the blog to view the video.)

We have library tomorrow. Be sure to bring back your books!

Ms. Abbie was working in our room and took some time to read this book to us.

This is the book Ms. Abbie read to us.

Ms. Sandy read The Night Before Halloween for Nikelle's birthday treat.

The video below shows how much we love to read and talk to our friends about our books.

Mission Statement

We finally completed our work on interpreting our school mission statement and putting it into our own words. We had some wonderful discussions about all of the topics involved. It is a bit long but the crew really wanted to include all of those items. We were able to condense a couple of ideas into one statement. You can see our final statement below along with some other signs and charts that are around our room.

The Gift of Reading

Micheal and his family recently gave our crew a very nice gift of some books and stuffed animals. They gave us a Corduroy book and stuffed bear and a Paddington book and stuffed bear. We are already enjoying them and love having more book friends to read to in our classroom library. Thank you, Michael and family!

Connor loves Curious George books. He and his family gave our crew a new Curious George book to add to our collection. We do love to read! Thanks Connor and family!

Gallery Walk

We started our new case study for our We Are Family Expedition. We will now be taking a deeper look at families in another culture (along with continuing to learn about the families in our own crew). Because we have so many great resources in the Denver Metro area that go along with our study, we chose to take a close look at families in China. We will compare how those families live to how we live to find similarities and differences. It will be very interesting! We began our study with a Gallery Walk and took a look at some artifacts from China. There were so many interesting items to see. Check out the photos below for more.
