Visiting the Second Grade Teachers and Classrooms
Today we took a short tour of the second grade classrooms. We met Ms Hanni and learned a little about Ms. Amanda who we will meet next year. We were able to ask some questions and take a good look around. This made us feel both excited and nervous about second grade but we all know that it will be great to be in second grade.
Another New Non-Fiction Series We Love
So while this series may not be new but it is new to us and we love it. It is the True or False series. We are all learning so many fascinating facts while having fun guessing whether statements are true or false. These would be great books to have on a car or plane trip this summer. They would also just be good when the "I'm bored" refrain starts. There are many of these at the public library. I have more coming for us to preview on Monday.
Homework
No homework over the weekend. Enjoy some good books with your child.

Service Learning
Our Service Learning project for 1st grade is divided into two components. One part was donating our worms to the school garden. The other part we completed today. We cleaned up the trash around the school. We have been learning about soil and how important it is to our survival. We know that we must take care of our soil and keep it free of pollutants. By picking up trash around the school we help keep pollutants out of the soil and away from our soil and food sources.

Books for Summer Reading
As you know, I gather collections of books from the public library and bring them in for the crew to explore. For these last few weeks I am bringing in samples of series that they might enjoy reading over the summer. I am only bringing in one book from each series. I haven't read many of these myself yet so I plan to explore right along with the crew. Below are some photos of these books that might help you if your child is looking for books in one of these series during the summer. (You can click on the photo to see a larger version of it.)
