Wednesday Workshop

For our Wednesday Workshop time this week, Lyam taught us how to make bracelets by braiding yarn, Max taught us some paper folding techniques and Avery K. taught us how to count in French. We have many experts in our crew and we love learning from them. Check out the photos in the album below. I can't even begin to tell you how happy this day made me. While it was messy - all learning is - it was so moving to me to see our young experts take over.

Library - We have library tomorrow. Please help your child remember to return their books so that they can check out new ones.

Bodey's Family

During RAD, each crew does have some time in their classroom. During part of our classroom time, Bodey and his mom came and did a presentation about their family and their love for travel and their connection to flying - Bodey's mom is a flight attendant. I can't even begin to tell you how adorable it was when they walked in the room dressed as a pilot and a flight attendant. They shared so many cool things about being a flight attendant and a pilot and we got to take a pretend flight, have an airplane snack, earn our wings and make a mini-airplane. I am including a couple of photos of their presentation below but there are many more in our RAD photo album. Thanks Malissa and Bodey for sharing your love of flying with us! We loved it all!

RAD ~ Renaissance Adventure Day!

What a fantastic day! We truly had a wonderful day. There were so many sweet moments that I am remembering as I work on this post. (Yes, there were some challenges - like the later lunch time and overstimulation at the dance party -  but we can and did do hard things. Thanks to those of you who stepped up and took some kids out of the dance party when it all became too much for them.) I will let your child tell you all about these pictures and you will be able to see just how happy the crew was all day and how they really worked together so well - all day. Thanks to all of you for your donations, for volunteering to work at events, and for supporting our day in general. If you have any photos that you would like to add to our RAD photo album, please do so. It was a day for photos!

We also made our fundraising goal. Check it out at this link: RAD Fundraising Goal

Every Child is a Writer!

I love this short 3 minute video that explains the developmental stages of writing in young children to parents. Please take 3 minutes to watch this - it will help you see the beauty in your child's writing.

Every Child is a Writer

Also be sure to check out the video I shared on this blog on Tuesday about how to help your child when they are reading. It is short but very good.

Workshop Wednesday ~ Yoga

Today during our workshop time, Ms. Jessica, Caris' mom came and taught us a little bit about yoga. We learned about how to relax and stretch and breathe. We also had a great time. Thanks, Ms. Jessica!

We also drummed with our 6th grade buddies for the first time today. It was a big day for us!

Reading With Your Child

By now you know that your child is choosing books to bring home to read to you each night from Monday through Thursday. You may be wondering how to help your child with their reading or what to say as they are reading aloud to you. The 5 minute video below will answer those questions for you. The video will explain some of the best ways to help your child and will let you hear a child reading to a parent so you can hear the parent responses. Please continue to read aloud to your child, too. If you get this post by email, you will need to click through and go directly to the crew blog to view the video. It won't appear in the email.
