Fantastic Day in First Grade!

The end of the school year is approaching quickly but we are still learning, learning, learning all day long. Here are a few things we did today:

I got to try on Charlotte's Hermione cape from the Harry Potter series.

We had a fantastic lesson with Ms. Allison about the difference between being proud and bragging.

We got to Skype with Sarah Farthing, the author of the book, Moon Loader. We just ordered her new book and we had so many questions for her. So we set up a Skype call with her to ask them. She was an amazing speaker and had so many answers to all of our questions. It was great! We also got to meet her two sons who are also the main characters of the book. Thank you, Sarah!

Then the most unexpected thing happened - I let the crew watch an animated video. That NEVER happens. We watched an excellent episode of The Magic School Bus. It was all about bees and how they communicate and make honey. We learned so much!

Of course, there was even more happening in our day but I will let the crew tell you all about it. Be sure to ask them what they did in Art today. They were so excited about that!

There is always so much to learn and so much to do! We will be busy until the very last minute of the very last day! And...we will love it all!

We use most of them at school at various points in the school year. Bees and Pollen

Today we used a dried bee to demonstrate how bees gather the pollen from flowers. The pollen sticks to the little hairs on bees which helps the pollen get from one flower to another as it brushes off the bee. Bees also put pollen into pockets or baskets on their hind legs to carry back to the hive. Who knew that bees could be so fascinating?

Our 6th Grade Buddies from Renaissance Secondary School

We now have buddies in Ms. Hanni's crew from the secondary school. We have met with them a couple of times. They are interviewing us, reading with us and getting to know us. They will be writing picture books as their final project in their current Expedition and they need to get to know their audience. We are enjoying having some older kids talk to us, read to us and listen to us read.
