What is it?

Occasionally we play the game What is it? during morning meeting. It has been a while since we played it so we played a round this morning. We take a found object or a common object and try to think of new uses for it. Perhaps the name of the game should be What could it be? Ask your child to tell you all about it.

Morning Meeting

We begin each day with a morning meeting. Morning meetings help ease us all into the day. They consist of a message about our day that we read together, a greeting, a song, sharing time and an activity. Our activity this morning was called Person to Person. We had to work with a partner and touch our knees together or our fingers together and more. Enjoy the photos of this below.

We also learned how to do "Turn and Talk" to share our ideas with other crew members.

Pictures - School Pictures are tomorrow. Our time for pictures is 12:40 pm. Order envelopes were available from the office during Listening Conferences.

Back to School Carnival is tomorrow after school.

Grandparents, aunts, uncles, friends and other relatives are welcome to subscribe to our crew blog if they are interested. It is open to all.

Please have your child learn his or her student id number. It is a 6 digit number that we use to buy lunch and access computers. You can find your child's id number on the Parent Portal. I can also send it to you if you need help. They will use this number for years so investing a little time now to memorize it pays off greatly in the long run. Thanks!

Thumb Wrestling

Our daily morning meetings consist of several regular features: a greeting, sharing time, a morning message, the Pledge of Allegiance and an activity. The activity could be a team building game, a game that promotes something we are learning in one of the content areas or something that supports our character traits. We recently tried a fun team building activity - thumb wrestling. We began with regular thumb wrestling but then tried to work together as a crew and have all of us thumb wrestle in one big group. It was loads of fun. Ask your child to tell you all about it. The idea for the activity came from the short TED talk below called Massively Multi-Player...Thumb Wrestling. Morning Meeting

We begin each day with a morning meeting. We have a regular list of items that happen in each meeting. We read our Morning Message, we say the Pledge of Allegiance, we greet each other, we have a sharing time, and we do an activity.

Our Morning Message tells us a little bit about our day so we all know what to expect. We have a variety of ways that we greet each other during our greeting time. Sharing time is not like show and tell. It is a time to learn more about each other. Sometimes we all share by answering a common question and sometimes we choose 3 people to share something about their life. We all look forward to the part of the meeting. The activity portion all has a lot of variety though some things stay the same from week to week. We always drum on Monday morning and we always have Stewardship Day on Tuesdays. During this time we clean out our desks and clean up the classroom. The rest of the week varies.

One recent activity we did was to line up in order. We each had a card with a number on it and we had to count by 2s to get in order. The tricky part was that we were not allowed to talk to each other while getting in order. We had to communicate in other ways in order to be successful. We were so proud when we did it as you can see in the photos below.

Sharing During Morning Meeting
Each morning during our Morning Meeting we have a sharing time. This is a time to share things that are happening in our lives that are important to us. Three people share each day and then they get to take two questions or comments from the crew. I thought I would share a bit about what was shared this morning as an example. Jonathan shared about a ski trip that he went on during Spring Break. Abby shared about the spacer in her mouth. Van had very exciting news. He shared pictures from his doctor's appointment yesterday. He went in for allergy tests and found out that he is no longer allergic to tree nuts - only peanuts. He was very happy about that. Sharing time is very important to our crew and it is a great way to bond with each other and get to know each other better.

Morning Meeting

Every morning we do morning meeting. We read our morning message. The message tells us who is the teacher’s helper and what day it is. Then we do the Pledge of Allegiance. We greet each other by saying good morning in different languages. Then we pick 3 people to share something. Then we do an activity. Today we did stretching. On Mondays we drum. On Tuesdays we clean out our desks. On other days we play games. Morning meetings are fun.
