Financial Literacy

Since we have finished our short study of patriotic symbols, this week we started another short study. This time our topic is financial literacy. We will learn about goods and services, wants and needs, earning money (income), saving money, spending money and more. Below are some of the outcomes and standards that we will be addressing. We will be using some of the language below but most of the time our language will be much more kid-friendly than these standards that are written for adults. Our next Expedition (science based this time) will start right after spring break.

Outcomes:
Analyze personal wants and needs in relation to societal wants and needs
Analyzes impact of personal choices (e.g. short term financial goals)

Colorado State Standards:

Students can:
a.    Give examples of different types of business and the goods and services they produce for the community
b.    Give examples of types of jobs people in your family have
c.     Recognize that people have a choice about what kinds of jobs they do
Students can:
a.    Define a short-term financial goal
b.    Identify examples of short-term financial goals
c.     Discuss sources of income needed to meet short-term goals such as but not limited to gifts, borrowing, allowances, and income
