During last week's book fair, several students bought books to donate to our crew. We have read a couple of them as a crew and we are really enjoying them. Thank you to Madison, Landon, Jack, Will and Evan for the gift of books.

Looking for a Good Book?
If you are looking for a good book for your child, you will find some on my Pinterest boards. I use Pinterest to keep track of good books for various purposes. You do not need to have a Pinterest account to view the pages. So click here and browse away. You might find some great gift ideas or books to check out from the library. Once you are on the Pinterest page, you can click on any "board" to see a variety of books in that category. Then if you click on the picture of the book, it will take you to a larger picture of the book. If you click that larger picture, it will most often take you to that book on the the Douglas County Public Library website and you can place it on hold from there. Then you will get an email from the library when the book is in and you can go and pick it up.

Great Series Books
We are continuing to look at great series books. Our crew spent the last couple of weeks reading books from the Cork and Fuzz series by Dori Chaconas and the Dragon series by Dav Pilkey. Ask your child what he or she thought of these series.
For the next couple of weeks, we will be reading books in the Andy Shane series by Jennifer Richard Jacobson and Abby Carter and the Young Cam Jansen series by David A. Adler and Susanna Natti. My goal is to expose the crew to many, many different types and series of books so that they will be able to find books that they enjoy when they visit the library.
More Voyage Photos
Ms. Heather sent in a couple of the photos she took on the Winter Voyage. I have added them to the end of our slideshow - right before the sleeping children. I am in these photos - proof that I was there. Thanks, Heather.

Measuring with Tape Measures
Today we practiced measuring with tape measures. We took turns measuring each other. We measured around our heads, wrists, ankles and elbows. It was a lot of fun.
Book Fair Books for our Classroom Library
While the book fair was here several of our crew members bought books for our classroom library. We have been reading one book a day and really enjoying the stories. Thanks to the following people for the following books:
Brek - Pip and Squeak
Doran - Hibernation Station
Ava - The Busy Tree
Nico - Interrupting Chicken
Morgan - Cool Dog, School Dog
Probsdorfer Family (family of a former 1st grader and staunch REMS supporters) - Ten on the Sled

Paper Towel Rolls Needed
We will be making number scrolls in Math soon and we need some empty paper towel rolls to store them in. If you have any empty paper towel rolls at your house, we would love to have them. Thanks.

Gifts from Ms. Deborah
Ms. Deborah has been visiting our crew and she noticed how much we all love Elephant and Piggie books and Pete the Cat books. So she surprised us with new books for our classroom. She gave us copies of Pete the Cat I Love My White Shoes, Pete the Cat Rocking in my School Shoes and the newest Elephant and Piggie book called Happy Pig Day. We love these books and could read them over and over again. Many of us are also writing books about these characters during Writer's Workshop. Thank you, Ms. Deborah!
Homework
No homework for the weekend. Enjoy a few good books with your child.

Our IA next week is PE. Remember to wear appropriate shoes. It is our week to climb!

Halloween Costume Parade and Breakfast
Our annual Halloween Costume Parade and Breakfast will be on Monday. Students are invited to wear their costumes to school. We will have a morning meeting and then we will watch the costume parade proceed through our classroom. We will join the parade at the end of the line and parade through other classrooms as well. When return to our classroom, we will have a small breakfast and an activity. These are being planned by Ms. Paulette. You are welcome to join us or to find a great spot in the halls to watch the parade go by. After the festivities, we will take off our costumes and put them in our backpacks to bring home. Please keep any toy weapons that are parts of a costume at home. These can be used for neighborhood trick-or-treating but should not be brought to school. I will be in costume, too, and would love to see some of you come in costume as well. It should be a fun morning.
More New Books for our Classroom Library
During our last Scholastic Book ordering session, we earned some free books. Ms. Kerry recently used our free book certificates and ordered some great new books for our classroom library. Check out the great titles in the photo below. Thanks, Ms. Kerry for handling this. We will really enjoy these books. I haven't shared these books with the crew yet because I have been out for the last two days. That will be one of the first things do tomorrow when I return. We have some avid readers and I need to get these books into their hands.
