Today we learned all about some two-dimensional shapes. Then we got to create some shapes
using straws and twist-ties. We have also been tying our word work
learning to our math learning by taking a look at some of the prefixes
used to name shapes. For example, tri means three, quad means four, penta means five, hexa
means six, hepta means seven, octa means eight, nona means nine and deca
means ten. We stopped at ten. This lesson brought our study of word chunks (prefixes in this case) in word work to life by learning these number prefixes and using them
to name different shapes - triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, etc.

We did this activity as a solo math time. This means that we all worked quietly on our own just like we might do a solo time on a hike or in the classroom. It was so quiet in our room.
