Sharing Our Writing
We completed our All About books last week and had a sharing session with Ms. Mary Beth's crew on Friday. The books will be added to our portfolios that will follow us to second grade. You are welcome to stop by any time to take a look at your child's book. In the meantime, enjoy the Haiku Deck of photos below. You can also stop by our Kidblog page to read/hear our books as we are adding our books to our blogs. More books are being added every day. If you get this post by email, you will need to click through to the blog to view the Deck. Enjoy!

Teacher Appreciation Day Door Decoration
Our classroom door was decorated today as part of Teacher Appreciation Day and I thought you would all like to see it. It was perfect! It goes right along with the study of families in China we did earlier in the year. Kristen did an amazing job - just look at that lettering! I can't wait to read the fortunes that the kids wrote to go inside the cookies. Thanks to all who helped and thanks for the wonderful lunch from Noodles and Co. It was a very nice day.

A Lesson by Reese
Last week, Reese figured out how to make multiple page ShowMes. The crew was very excited to learn how she did this. So on Friday, Reese taught the crew how she figured it out. We decided to video tape it for future reference. Trey was our camera person since he had the best angle to see Reese and the screen from his desk. Below are the videos (there are two short videos that are less than one minute each - we had a bit of a technical issue with plugs and cords and had to stop and start again) and the ShowMe that Reese created that inspired all of this learning. Her voice is very soft so turn up the sound on your computer. If you get this post by email, you will need to go directly to the blog to view the videos. Enjoy!
We are also very excited about this new learning because now we can "publish" the books we write to our blogs and read them aloud to our audience. Sophia was the first to try (others are now getting theirs up, too, but it will take a while to get all of them up). Below is Sophia's All About book. Be sure to continue to check our Kidblog page frequently to read/hear more books as they are added.

Sight Words/Word Work
Our new sight words are: how, down, people, won't why
Previous words include: and, going, of, for, like, little, look, saw, she, said, the, thing, they, was, with, come, get, from, have, are, some, went, want, out, her, very, favorite, made, here, night, friend, when, because, talk, could, new, nice, kick, rain, house
We are working on learning to spell these words correctly. We can read them, now we must learn to write them. These are great words to point out to your child when they are reading or to have them practice spelling at home, too.
Ask your child to explain how we practice these words at school using the Look, Say, Cover, Write, Check method.
Homework
No homework for the weekend. Enjoy some great books with your child.

Our IA next week is PE. Please help your child remember to wear appropriate footwear.

3, 2, 1 Game
Has your child shared the 3, 2, 1 Game with you yet? If not, you should ask them about it. It is a fun strategy game that requires no materials to play. It is fun to play while in the car or in other waiting around situations.
3, 2, 1 Game Directions
You will need a partner to play. The object of the game is to be the first player to reach exactly 0 by subtracting 1, 2, or 3 from a given starting number. We have been using 21 as our starting number but you can vary this any time you think your child is ready for a different challenge. Children will need to play several times before they start noticing patterns that will help them form winning strategies. We have many in our crew who are beginning to have strategies to help them win this game. Challenge your child to a game and see what they can tell you about their thinking.

Bologna Glasses
On Monday, I wrote about books we have read together as a crew. I mentioned how we bond by reading these books and how two girls created "bologna glasses" with their turkey slices during lunch on our Voyage. I just got a photo of this (more photos of the Voyage are coming) and wanted to share it with you. Here are "turkey glasses" just like Clementine's bologna glasses from the book Clementine.
Books We've Read Together This Year
As I mentioned earlier in the week, we have read over 325 books aloud together this year. Click here or on the picture below to browse through our shelf of the books we have read.
