Challenge Day

Today was Challenge Day! We all had a great time! It is such a fun way to raise money for our school. Thanks to all who organized the event, volunteered at the event and made donations to the event. We appreciate you. Click the link below to view our Challenge Day photos in our crew photo album and if you were here, feel free to add your photos to the album, too:

This and That

At Wednesday's Beat, the whole school played a round of Twister. It was pretty challenging but fun! Thanks to the volunteers who cut out circles for us so we could play. We saved our circles and will use them again later for another project.

Ms. Hanni's fourth grade crew is working on a math problem comparing heights of fourth graders to heights of first graders. They came to measure our height on Wednesday. We can't wait to see their results.

Ms. Brittany's crew and Ms. Kim's crew recently took part in a Cardboard Challenge. They created lots of creative games and activities. They invited our crew to come and play some of these games and activities today. We loved it! Your child may be inspired to create their own cardboard games and activities over Fall Break.  I took too many photos to include here so be sure to visit our crew photo album to check out the Cardboard Carnival and see how much fun we were having:

We have library tomorrow. Please help your child remember to return his or her books.

Groundbreaking for Renaissance Secondary School

The ground breaking ceremony for the Renaissance Secondary School was tonight. It was such an inspiring ceremony. My favorite part was hearing the students speak about their dreams for the school. River, from our crew, was one of the speakers and he did a fantastic job. Pictures of River and a few of my other former students are below. I can't wait to see the building when it is finished in 10 months. It is going to be amazing!

We Are Family

As I mentioned yesterday, our first Expedition is called, We Are Family. Our first case study is a study of our own families and how they are alike and different. We have been using our math skills to create graphs with information about our families as you can see in the picture below. So far we have graphed the number of siblings we have, where our families live and what our families' favorite dinners are. We also learned a little bit about maps when we talked about where our families live. This week we took a look at our grandparents lives and see how their childhood was similar to or different from ours. We are learning that we are part of a family and part of our family history.

Grandparent Interview - Families in the Past

We are about halfway through our Social Studies Expedition called, We Are Family. During our first case study, we have studied and compared our own families. This week we talked about families in the past and how our family has changed over time. As you know, we interviewed our grandparents to find out what life was like for them as they were growing up. Below are some of the things we learned.  We learned so much and were really excited to share our learning. We noticed that many of our grandparents had similar experiences. We will start a new case study (but still part of the We Are Family Expedition) after Fall Break.
