Nonfiction Study
For the next few weeks in both reading and writing, we will be studying nonfiction texts. In Reader's Workshop, we will be learning about some of the text features of a nonfiction book like a table of contents, a glossary, an index, section headings and much more. In Writer's Workshop, we will begin writing an "All About" book about an animal of our choosing. We will learn how to take notes and then put those notes into books about our animals. We will try to add some of the nonfiction text features that we learn about during Reader's Workshop into the books we create during Writer's Workshop. We will not only find facts about our animals in books and magazines, we will also use some kid-friendly search engines and websites. You can see the sites we will be using on the Resources page of our crew blog under the Research heading.

Special Visit from Ms. Deborah
We frequently have nice visits from Ms. Deborah but today's visit was very special. Today she brought a box full of the books that we love. She had been in our classroom earlier and noticed what avid readers we have in our crew. She asked me for a list of titles so she could give us more books to read. We were very excited about all of the titles and couldn't wait to start reading. She also stayed for a little while and read us two of her favorite books. Ask your child about the stories she read to us. You can see how interesting the stories were in the photos below.
