Today we learned all about polygons. Then we got to create some polygons using straws and twist-ties. We have also been tying our word work learning to our math learning by taking a look at some of the prefixes used to name polygons. For example, poly means many, uni means one, bi means two, tri means three, quad means four, penta means five, hexa means six, hepta means seven, octa means eight, nona means nine and deca means ten. We stopped at ten. This lesson brought our study of prefixes from word work to life by learning these number prefixes and using them to name different polygons - triangle, quadrilateral, pentagon, etc. Check out some of our polygons below. At the end of the polygon pictures, you will see a couple of pictures from our penny flipping probability/graphing activity.
